Land grants, 1774-1779.

The land grants are records of the lands that were granted, by the Crown of Great Britain, to settlers in British West Fla., in return for payment of a quit-rent of one-half peny (sic) sterling per acre, at the annual feast of St. Michael, to the Receiver-General of quit-rents. The land that was granted was near Mobile, especially near the Tombigbee and Tensaw Rivers, and near Brier Creek. All grants state the name of the person receiving the land grant, the date, the size of the tract of land, and the signatures of the surveyor-general and the attorney-general.
